How to Give Claude Persistent Memory in 5 Minutes
Claude is brilliant — but it has amnesia. Every conversation starts fresh. It doesn't know your name, your project, your preferences, or anything you told it yesterday. Here's how to fix that.
The Problem
You've probably experienced this: you spend 30 minutes explaining your project to Claude, get a great response, close the tab — and next time, it's like talking to a stranger again. All that context? Gone.
This isn't a Claude limitation you have to live with. Using MCP (Model Context Protocol), you can give Claude access to a persistent memory layer that remembers everything you want it to.
Give your AI tools a memory
Mirror Memory stores your thoughts and makes them available to every AI tool you use, via MCP.

- A Mirror Memory account (free tier works)
- Claude Desktop (or Cursor, ChatGPT, or any MCP-compatible tool)
- 5 minutes
Step 1: Create Your Account
Sign up at mirrormemory.ai. You'll go through a quick onboarding where Mirror Memory asks you 10 questions to build your initial "reflection" — a baseline of who you are, what you work on, and how you think. Each answer becomes a searchable memory.
Step 2: Add Some Memories
From the dashboard, type anything into the capture bar — project notes, decisions, ideas, preferences. Mirror Memory automatically categorizes and embeds each thought using AI. You can also send memories via Telegram (text or voice notes).
Step 3: Generate an API Key
Go to Settings → API Keys and create a new key. Give it a name like "Claude Desktop". Copy the key — you'll only see it once.
Step 4: Connect to Claude Desktop
Go to the Connect page in Mirror Memory. You'll see a ready-made JSON config snippet for Claude Desktop. Copy it, open Claude Desktop's settings, and paste the config into the MCP servers section. Restart Claude Desktop.
Step 5: Talk to Claude Like It Knows You
That's it. Now when you ask Claude "What did I decide about the pricing model?" or "Write me a bio based on what you know about me", it automatically searches your Mirror Memory and pulls in the relevant context. No copy-pasting. No re-explaining. It just knows.
Works With More Than Claude
The same setup works with Cursor, ChatGPT, Windsurf, OpenClaw, and any other MCP-compatible tool. One memory layer, every AI tool you use.
